Bartholomew Co. car accident leads to OWI arrest

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A two-vehicle accident in Bartholomew Co. lead to the arrest of one for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The accident happened just after 8 p.m. Thursday March 31 in the 13000 block of East Base Road in Bartholomew County.

According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, after arriving on scene, two vehicles were found south of the roadway in a field.  Both vehicles incurred heavy front end damage as a result of the crash.

While conducting their investigation of the crash, police soon discovered one of the drivers, Gregory Watts, of the vehicles involved in the crash, showed signs of impairment.

Police say Watts admitted to a deputy that he had been drinking.

Watts was then taken to Columbus Regional Hospital to be checked for injuries related to the accident.  After the hospital visit, Watts was taken the Bartholomew County Jail.

He faces a preliminary charge for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated/endangerment.
