Democratic candidate answers the question, ‘Where’s John Gregg?’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Where’s John Gregg?

It’s a question Republicans keep asking about the Democratic candidate for governor.

Gregg currently has a low public profile in his second bid for governor but he thinks it’s the right approach.

Gregg was at his downtown Indianapolis campaign headquarters Friday where he said that questions about his whereabouts are a political ploy intended to distract voters.

“My good friends in the Republican Party keep wanting to say ‘where’s John Gregg?’” he said. “That’s because they don’t want to talk about Mike Pence.”

In fact, four years ago when Gregg came within three percentage points of upsetting Mike Pence, he held his first major news conference in the first week of April.

Nevertheless, it’s not just Republicans who are asking the question.

“I understand the strategy,” said political analyst John Ketzenberger on Indiana Week in Review. “I think it makes sense but he’s gonna have to really engage and pretty soon, I think.”

Gregg does admit that his strategy will evolve.

“Once the primary comes and goes,” he said, “I think you’ll see things starting to ratchet up and we’re doing it now. It just may not be noticable here in Indianapolis.”

He’s been concentrating, he says, on the four corners of the state in appearances that began 18 months ago.
