33 Indiana artists to commemorate 100th Indy 500 race

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – About three dozen artists from Indiana have been tasked with creating their own take on the “Welcome Race Fans” banner that canvass the city during the auto racing season.

It’s an effort to commemorate the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. The new initiative is a collaboration between the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Works will be on display at businesses and community centers throughout the city as well as at the speedway until the race, which will take place May 29.

Vice president of the Arts Council Shannon Linker said the 33 pieces will cover a range of artistic styles and will be made from different media to represent the diversity of Indiana.
