Event commemorates Kennedy’s Indy speech in wake of Dr. King’s death

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Monday night marked a tragedy that forever lives on in Indianapolis history.

Forty-eight years ago then-senator Robert Kennedy gave a speech in Indianapolis in the wake of Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination.

That speech is widely credited for easing racial tensions at the time.

A remembrance was held Monday night at the Kennedy King Memorial at 17th Street and Broadway Street.

Not only did those in attendance remember the legacy of Dr. King and Kennedy, they announced many projects underway to help further Dr. King’s dream of a peaceful and united America.

In addition to Monday’s memorial, there were also tributes to three people who died recently.

Former State Representative William Crawford, radio personality Amos Brown and social service advocate Mark St. John.
