IMPD Chief Riggs takes oath of office

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Troy Riggs took the oath of office Monday.

He was sworn in by Mayor Joe Hogsett, who appointed Riggs to the position of chief in December 2015.

Riggs had to obtain certification within six months in Indiana to become police chief, but he’s no stranger to the badge.

Riggs served for more than 20 years as a police officer and administrator in Louisville and later as assistant city manager in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Since taking office as chief, IMPD says Riggs has moved forward on his promise to make the city safer and reduce fear of crime.

Riggs previously serviced as director of public safety for the city of Indianapolis.
