4 police officers, 1 firefighter injured in fatal Tennessee fire

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – One firefighter and four police officers were injured while trying to rescue people trapped inside of a burning home in Cookeville Tuesday night.

It happened at a home located in the 500 block of Cypress Avenue around 11 p.m. Crews remained on the scene until nearly 5 a.m.

According to Mayor Ricky Shelton’s Facebook page, four of the injured emergency workers were taken to a local hospital, while another was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

One resident was killed in the fire, while another was also transported to Vanderbilt. Their identities have not been released.

The fire appears to be accidental in nature. The investigation is ongoing.

Additional information is expected to be released later Wednesday.
