Detective arrested, charged with OWI after crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Fort Wayne Police Department detective who investigators say crashed his SUV in what appeared to be a drunken driving incident has been charged and arrested.

Brent A. Roddy has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless driving causing bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident in which the driver fails to immediately stop at the scene. He was booked into Allen County Lockup on Tuesday and was quickly released after posting bond.

According to a crash report, Roddy, a detective with the Fort Wayne Police Department, was listed as the driver of a vehicle that veered off Rothman Road around 1 a.m. March 27, near a curve at Denise Drive. The SUV hit a sign, utility pole, and a phone junction box before it came to rest in a yard.

When police arrived, they found Roddy’s crumpled vehicle, but he was not inside. Authorities said they found him about a mile away from the crash with a blood alcohol level of .21, nearly three times the legal limit.

Roddy was taken to a hospital with injuries from the crash. He was released from the hospital days ago.

Roddy remains on paid administrative leave from the department while the case is investigated. His lawyer, Adam Henry, declined to comment.
