Kick the keys for National Walking Day

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Several central Indiana companies encourage their staff to take part in National Walking Day.

The first Wednesday in April is set aside for National Walking Day. The American Heart Association says the day is a good reminder to get moving.

Heart disease and stroke continue to be on the list of the top five killers in the United States. Moderate exercise, along with controlling weight and eating well, can reduce the risk of those issues. The American Heart Association suggests adults participate in at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise, about 20 minutes a day, or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week.

J.D. Byrider is encouraging employees to walk during their work hours today and even bring their dog for a stroll. The company will also have free wellness screenings available throughout the morning.

There are several other local companies participating in National Walking Day including Angie’s List, American Senior Communities and Finish Line.
