Student sentenced for making threats on Instagram

ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) – A 17-year-old who authorities say made threats against Rockford Public Schools in September 2015 will serve jail time.

On Thursday, a judge sentenced Jagar Ray Schwartz to 270 days in the Kent County jail (with credit for 169 days served) and five years of probation.

Schwartz has also agreed to pay restitution totaling $294 to Plainfield Township and $1,960.73 to Grand Rapids E-Vapor.

Schwartz previously pleaded guilty to making a false threat of terrorism. As part of his plea deal, another charge of breaking and entering with intent in an Aug. 24, 2015 break-in at Grand Rapids E-Liquid was dismissed.

Police say Schwartz of Belmont wrote on Instagram that “I’m not complaining, I’m just gonna shoot everybody up.” He allegedly said that he was upset over being forced to “repeat” the 11th grade.

He was also previously accused of vandalism at the Plainfield Township Office in September.
