Activists to protest Indiana’s abortion law Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Saturday afternoon, activists will hold a rally at the Statehouse to protest Indiana’s new abortion law.

Organizers put together a Facebook group for the rally, and so far more than 3,500 people on Facebook have said they’ll be there.

Organizers of the social media campaign “Periods for Pence” posted about the rally on Facebook. The group has been encouraging women to call Governor Pence and tell him about their personal health.

At the rally, protesters will read all the names of the lawmakers who voted for the bill.

The law doesn’t go into effect until July. The law bans abortion because of fetal abnormalities, race or gender.

Opponents say the law is unconstitutional and violates women’s rights. Supporters argue it protects the unborn.

The ACLU filed a lawsuit on behalf of Planned Parenthood on Thursday to block to the law.
