INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Jim Richter, a blind man known for selling brooms around Indianapolis for more than 60 years, is going to be allowed to sell brooms outside of post office locations again.

The 78-year-old “Broom Guy” had recently been told he would no longer be able to sell brooms outside of the Nora post office, or any other post office in the city.

On Friday, Richter received word that he would be allowed again on post office property.

The United States Postal Service issued this statement Friday afternoon:

Following a review of the unique facts, we are pleased to announce that the local Post Office has decided to allow Mr. Richter to return to the Nora, Castleton, Broad Ripple and Bacon Post Offices. This action ensures the safety of both Mr. Richter and our customers.”

Gov. Mike Pence visited Richter on Tuesday.

“This is a great, hardworking Hoosier who’s been out here providing a great product,” Pence said.
