Hamilton County accident turns fatal

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The driver involved in a serious personal injury crash at the intersection of US 31 and 236th Street, Thursday afternoon, has died.

According to the Hamilton County Crash Investigation Team, Rogelio Diaz, 43, died late Thursday night. He died from injuries sustained in the crash. His family has been notified.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened shortly after 2:00 p.m. They said Bryon Hobbs, 57, Converse, IN., was driving northbound on US 31 in a Freightliner truck when he stopped at a red light. Diaz was driving a white Ford, also northbound on US 31, when his van collided with the rear of the truck. Diaz was trapped in the van until taken out by fire personnel. He was transported by medical helicopter to Eskenazi Hospital.

Hobbs was not injured in the crash.

Toxicology tests were conducted on both drivers, results are pending at this time.

The Hamilton County Crash Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
