Runners prepare for Indy Mini in last leg of miler series

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – 2,000 runners and walkers trekked through the streets of downtown Indianapolis for the last of three races leading up to the 500 Festival Indy Mini-Marathon.

The 10-mile course, which was sold out, took participants from the White River State Park in front of the NCAA Hall of Champions to Lucas Oil Stadium, down Madison Avenue, up to Virginia Avenue, to West New York Street, to Indiana Avenue, and back to White River State Park.

Prior to the 10-mile race Saturday, the 500 Festival Miler Series included a three-mile course and a six-mile course.

Kim Gale, director of marketing for running events at 500 Festival said, “This gives them the opportunity to kind of line up for the state, the same that they will for the Mini-Marathon, get the experience, see what it’s like to run with a chip, get their time and experience the pit stations, the bands, the cheering along the course before they approach the start line on May 7th for the Mini-Marathon.”

Spaces are still available for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, which takes place on Saturday, May 7th. Registration costs $85. The Indy Mini is the largest fundraiser for the 500 Festival, which provides free youth programs and events.

The mini-marathon will begin near the intersection of Washington and West Streets in downtown Indianapolis. It will head west toward the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and includes a lap around the famed 2.5 mile track before heading back downtown to the finish line at Military Park.
