INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — UPDATE: INDOT has said that the closure has been postponed until midnight Tuesday.
Get ready if you drive on I-69 for some construction near 106th Street overpass. INDOT says they plan to close this bridge going over I-69 starting Monday morning for a project that will create a new exit.
INDOT says the project will help reduce congestion at the interchanges off 96th Street and 116th Street. INDOT says the north and southbound lanes on I-69 will shift to make the median wider
Crews will be removing the existing bridge over I-69.
The bridge at 106th Street will be closed starting Monday morning and traffic will be detoured south to 96th Street via Allisonville Road during construction. Most of the construction will happen overnight from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.
INDOT also wants to remind people that April is Work Zone Awareness Month. INDOT will spend $850 million on road improvements starting this spring and leaders want drivers to be aware of the dangers for construction workers.
Last year 10 people were killed and 600 people were injured in Indiana highway work zones. New signs going up across the state saying ‘Slow down save a life,’ are hoping to keep workers safe and drivers aware of the dangers.
INDOT says they expect the project at 106th Street to be finished by the end of the year. If you are having trouble keeping all the road construction straight you can download INDOT’s Interactive Map to stay ahead of the construction.
