Checkered flag will wave in Indy 500 winner
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The checkered flag in racing declares the race winner. You see it in 1911 as Ray Harroun wins the first Indianapolis 500.
Historians say that the checkered flag got its start in a bicycle race in France in the 1860s.
