INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released the name of the officer involved in a deadly police shooting.

The officer was identified as Patrol Officer Robert Carmichael. He is a six year veteran of IMPD.

Officer Carmichael, was involved in the fatal shooting of an armed robbery suspect at a gas station near 10th and Rural Street. Carmichael fatally shot Kevin Hicks during a “physical altercation” at the gas station.

During the incident, a woman called 911 to report a man assaulting her while they were in a vehicle. Police say the woman said she was being hit several times and that the man wouldn’t stop. When an Officer Carmichael arrived, he got into a struggle with the man, police say.

Prosecutors say that the surveillance video at the gas station will not be released until the investigation is complete.
