IMPD releases name of officer involved in fatal police shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released the name of the officer involved in a deadly police shooting.

The officer was identified as Patrol Officer Robert Carmichael. He is a six year veteran of IMPD.

Officer Carmichael, was involved in the fatal shooting of an armed robbery suspect at a gas station near 10th and Rural Street. Carmichael fatally shot Kevin Hicks during a “physical altercation” at the gas station.

During the incident, a woman called 911 to report a man assaulting her while they were in a vehicle. Police say the woman said she was being hit several times and that the man wouldn’t stop. When an Officer Carmichael arrived, he got into a struggle with the man, police say.

Prosecutors say that the surveillance video at the gas station will not be released until the investigation is complete.

Carmichael is on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.See below for a full timeline of police action shootings in Indianapolis.
