Ball State employee arrested for child porn

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — A Ball State employee has been arrested for possession of child pornography.

Randal Schmidt was arrested Wednesday by Ball State University Police following a joint investigation with the Indiana State Police Cyber Crime Unit. Investigators said a routine review found that a campus computer was accessing “suspicious content.”

Schmidt, a maintenance supervisor and 20-year employee of the university, was suspended, barred from campus and had his office computer confiscated on April 4.

He has voluntarily ended his employment.

Investigators said that there is not any evidence that his activities involved anyone else with the university.
