‘Grundy Crew’ leader has murder charges dropped
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An alleged gang leader has had four murder charges against him dropped.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that charges against Richard Grundy III were dropped after a witness was excluded.
“The successful prosecution on those charges relied in great part on a witness’s statements,” said Michael Leffler with MCPO.
The witness, Keynae Berry, now faces charges herself for one felony count of identity deception and eight felony counts of counterfeiting.
Court documents claim that Berry used a false name when signing documents that provided her with money to aid in relocation as a witness in a criminal investigation.
Grundy III, along with John Means, were charged in a pair of double murders that occurred in 2014. Court documents said Grundy III paid Means to kill Tyrece Dorsey and William Davis in January 2014 and Carlos Jefferson and Julius Douglas in February 2014.
Means is due back in court on April 22.
Grundy III still has several other charges against him, including murder, in a separate case. MCPO said the “Grundy Crew” is responsible for seven homicides and transported drugs between Phoenix and Indianapolis.
