‘It’s aggravating’: More I-69 construction headed to Hamilton County

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – As construction starts near 106th Street in Fishers, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is set to meet with neighbors about another construction project coming this summer.

Drive around Fishers and the construction is hard not to spot.

“Crazy busy. It’s just a lot of traffic and at certain times, you just have to be patient and wait,” Fishers resident Kathy Marshall said.

“It’s aggravating,” Fishers resident Ricky Jones said. “There’s nothing you can do about it.”

It’s about to get worse. INDOT will meet with neighbors next week to discuss its next $92 million Interstate 69 project.

It’s called, “Major Moves 2020,” but don’t let the name fool you, work will start in weeks.

“It’s just more construction,” Marshall said. “More waiting and needing more patience.”

Paving between exit 205 and 210 will start in May.

Work to add an I-69 lane from State Road 37 to State Road 32 will begin later this summer. Drivers will be able to use new features in late 2017, with it all completed by 2018.

It’s not only about I-69, but a new interchange will be built at exit 210. Right now, the cars drive on the right side of the road, but with this new project, that’ll all change.

It’s called a double crossover diamond design. Construction starts this July, which happens to be the thick of the Klipsch Music Center concert season.

INDOT officials said the exit will still be accessible, but are urging concert goers to seek alternate routes.

A similar design was added in Greenwood.

“In this area they’re going to need something new to help, so it’s something we really need,” Jones said.

It’s a series of upgrades drivers say the area needs, even if it takes a couple years of headaches.

“Eventually it will be over with, and then we’ll be happy it was done,” Jones said.

INDOT will meet with people Thursday, April 21, at 6 p.m. at Southeastern High School. To learn more about the meeting, and project, click here.
