Ringo Starr cancels North Carolina concert over bathroom bill

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — Ringo Starr has canceled his North Carolina performance in opposition to the passing of HB2.

In canceling the appearance, scheduled for June 18 at Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre, Starr quoted the Beatles’ song by saying “All you need is love.”

Like Bruce Springsteen, Starr said he stands with those fighting against, what he calls, “the bigotry” of HB2.

“I’m sorry to disappoint my fans in the area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred,” Starr said. “Spread peace and love,”

This law opens the door to discrimination everywhere by limiting anti-discrimination laws against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

“How sad that they feel that this group of people cannot be defended,” Starr said.

The members of Ringo and his All-Starr band, which begins its tour June 3 in Syracuse, are Todd Rundgren, Gregg Rolie, Steve Lukather, Richard Page, Warren Ham and Gregg Bissonette.

The Koka Booth Amphitheatre said that tickets purchased with a credit card via Box Office, phone or online will automatically be refunded to the original credit card used. Tickets purchased thru the Venue box using cash must be returned to the Box Office for a cash refund. For questions please call 1-800-514-3849.
