1 dead in crash near Westfield

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Authorities say they are investigating the fatal crash that happened in Hamilton County Friday morning.

The sheriff’s department said one person died in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 206th Street and Mule Barn Road around 9 a.m. That’s just northwest of Westfield.

Police said Travis Correll, 30 of Peru, was traveling eastbound on 206th Street, and Patricia Douglass, 52 of Westfield, was northbound on Mule Barn Road.

According to a report, Correll failed to yield the right-of-way to traffic on Mule Barn Road. Witnesses said his vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign on 206th Street and struck the driver side of Douglass’ vehicle, causing both vehicles to leave the road.

Police said Douglass was pronounced dead at the scene. They said Correll was treated by medics and released at the scene, but one passenger in his vehicle was taken by air ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, and one juvenile passenger in Correll’s vehicle was transported by family members to Riley Hospital to be checked.

Toxicology results are pending.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team is investigating the incident.
