Hundreds remember sports-legend Eugene Parker

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Hundreds are expected to attend the funeral for one of professional sports most popular sports agents on Saturday.

The service for Fort Wayne native and basketball standout Eugene Parker at First Assembly of God Church starts at 11 a.m.

The prominent sports agent passed away March 31 after a brief battle with kidney cancer. He was 60.

Parker attended Concordia High School in the 1970s, where he had a very successful basketball career and earned a scholarship to play hoops for Purdue University. He was eventually drafted by the San Antonio Spurs, but never played professionally.

Parker made a big impact on the court but it was his days after college when he truly became an international star.

He founded Maximum Sports Management 30 years ago in Roanoke and was most recently associated with Relativity Sports.

His clients have included five Hall of Famers, including Fort Wayne’s Rod Woodson. He’s also represented Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Devin Hester, and Hines Ward.
