Premiere parade sets stage for Indy 500 race

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The 500 Festival Parade took place for the first time in 1957.

Members of a committee recognized the need to create a special event prior to the Indy 500.

The parade consistently ranks in the top in the nation. Grand marshals for the parade have included many well-known names with Indiana ties, including astronauts and Indianapolis native David Wolfe, Indiana native and basketball great Larry Bird and broadcaster Jane Pauley.

This year’s parade is on Saturday May 28 at 12 p.m.
