8-year-old boy riding bike hit by bus in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) — A young boy was hit by a school bus in Richmond on Tuesday afternoon.

Richmond police said it happened at Ridge Street and Northwest I Street around 3:30 p.m.

An 8-year-old boy riding a bike was hit by a Richmond Community Schools bus and flown to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health with non-life threatening injuries, according to Richmond police.

The bus was towed to the Richmond Police Department garage and will be inspected by Indiana State Police.

“This is a very difficult afternoon for us at Richmond Community Schools,” RCS Superintdent Todd Terrill said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to our student and his family. We ask the entire Richmond community to send their thoughts/prayers as well. Our school district will work closely with authorities to investigate this accident thoroughly.”
