HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A man has been charged with murder after an incident that left a Hancock County man dead.
Joseph Baker intentionally ran over Duane Begley with his car on April 14, according to court documents.
It happened near the intersection of 500 West and U.S. 52. Prosecutors say the incident began as a dispute over child custody between Baker and his ex-wife. Begley was the ex-wife’s new boyfriend.
Documents say Begley was angry at Baker and ran after his truck in a CVS parking lot. Once Baker left the parking lot and went down an alley, the victim started walking to his car but tried to slash Baker’s tires. Baker then threw his car into reverse and started driving quickly after the victim.
According to a witness, Baker drove over the victim. That’s when a nearby police officer detained him.
Begley passed away on Sunday due to his injuries.
