Locals paying tribute to legendary artist Prince

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — There were no shortage of Prince songs playing over the airwaves on Thursday. 93.9 The Beat was just one radio station that starting playing the legend’s music in rotation right after news of his death broke.

The phone lines at The Beat were also lighting up. People called in to request their favorite songs, share memories, many talked about what the singer meant to them, some shared their concert moments. Prince performed in Indiana several times over his more than three decade career. Most recently he played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, then Conseco Fieldhouse, in 2004.

Mainly, however, callers just wanted to connect and share their sadness over the shocking news. 93.9 played tribute to the icon all day and even created a special mix.

Ms. E-Klass spoke to one caller, “I think for people that grew up with Prince, it’s like losing a family member, you know?”

Mister Marcus added, “It’s so rare that you see somebody so focused on their music and they put there all into their music, instead of endorsements, instead of drama. He was all about creating music and letting it resonate inside people. That’s rare.”

Around town, many businesses are also paying tribute. At Tini on Mass Ave, they’ve decked the place out in purple and are playing the mega star’s music all night. IPL is lighting its building up in purple.
