Fort Wayne police officer remains hospitalized following Sunday crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A member of the Fort Wayne Police Department Crisis Response Team remains hospitalized as of Monday morning after being injured early Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash responding to a standoff.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 12:45 p.m. to W. Jefferson Boulevard and Liberty Mills Road, just west of I-69 after Officer Sophia Rosales-Scatena’s marked squad car was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of West Jefferson and Liberty Mills Road. Rosales-Scatena’s emergency equipment was engaged at the time of the crash according to a police department spokesperson.

Rosales-Scatena was pinned inside her car and had to be extricated. She suffered multiple fractures and is listed in serious condition and is awaiting surgery.
