Man tries to bond relative out of jail, arrested for possession of marijuana

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A 25-year-old male was arrested early Monday morning in the parking lot of the Vigo County Jail on drug charges.

Officials said around 4:45 a.m. a male was sitting in a vehicle in the north parking lot of the Vigo County Jail. Personnel was able to use security cameras to see the male “rolling what appeared to be a cigarette or illegal substance while sitting in the vehicle.”

Deputies spoke with the male who was identified as Jacques Cunningham. They said they saw what appeared to be marijuana on his lap, as well as both open and unopened bottles of alcohol on the floor of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle found about 28 grams of suspected marijuana in a plastic bag under Cunningham’s seat.

“Mr. Cunningham and a second male had driven from Danville, Illinois to bond out a relative from our jail. It was while they were waiting for the relative to be released from custody that both men had an opportunity to meet our midnight shift deputies,” Chief Deputy John Moats said.

Cunningham was arrested for possession of marijuana and walked into the Vigo County Jail.
