Suspect arrested in robbery of bank during Koontz funeral

GULFPORT, Miss. (WISH) — A Mississippi man has been arrested, accused of robbing a bank while law enforcement in the area was saying goodbye to one of their own.

Indiana State Police announced the arrest of 21-year-old Mykelti Robinson of Gulfport, Mississippi. He’s being held on a federal charge of bank robbery after surrendering to law enforcement in Gulfport.

Robinson is accused of robbing the Key Bank in the 1100 block of East Hoffer Street in Kokomo on March 29.

ISP, FBI and the Kokomo Police Department worked the case. Investigators said he displayed a handgun and demanded money.

At the same time as the robbery, law enforcement from around the state were gathered to lay Deputy Carl Koontz to rest. Koontz was shot and killed while serving a warrant on March 20.
