City County Councillors may approve plan to create better mass transit system

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The plan to create a better mass transit system in central Indiana may move forward.

Indianapolis City County Councillors could give their first approval for a plan that would allow voters in Marion County to vote for or against the idea of raising the income tax to help pay for the project.

Councillors are meeting Tuesday to discuss the the project.

The increase would be a quarter of a percent.

The money would help pay for added bus service and new express routes connecting neighborhoods and downtown.

The proposal would be on the ballot in November.
