KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — Sports fans might cringe at a slip of the tongue by presidential hopeful Ted Cruz on Tuesday.

While campaigning in the Knightstown, Indiana, gym where the movie “Hoosiers” was filmed, Cruz referred to a basketball hoop as a “basketball ring.”

“Well as you all know, we’re here on the Hickory basketball court,” Cruz said before asking an aide to measure the basketball hoop.

“You know the amazing thing is that basketball ring here in Indiana is the same height as it is in New York City and every other place in this country, and there is nothing that Hoosiers cannot do,” he said.

The Texas senator was referencing an iconic scene in “Hoosiers.”

The historic Knightstown gymnasium is named Hoosier Gym.
