‘Cruz to prom with me?’ Columbus teen’s political prom-posal

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH)– A Columbus North High School senior got some help from Senator Ted Cruz when she asked her boyfriend to prom.

Chloe Jorgensen said she and her boyfriend agreed: no special “prom-posals.” But then she thought of a plan she couldn’t pass up.

She went to Zaharako’s Ice Cream Shop for Cruz’s Tuesday appearance. Jorgensen said she waited outside for twenty minutes, then made her way through the crowd to Cruz.

Eventually, Cruz saw Chloe and a sign she made.

The poster reads: “Dontae, will you Cruz to prom with me?”

It’s a message for her boyfriend, who works at the ice cream shop.

“There’s definitely a lot of pressure to come up with a creative prom-posal,” Jorgensen said.

Jorgensen describes herself as a political nerd. When Cruz took a photo with her and signed the poster, she was all smiles.

Even better: she surprised Dontae.

“He was like, I should have seen this coming. I knew you were coming. I should have expected this from you,” Jorgensen said.

Last year, a Mount Vernon teen used two IMPD cars to ask his date.

Two years ago, an Evansville High School student spent three months planning a billboard prom-posal.

Jorgensen’s sign took her twenty minutes. It’s a hit with her classmates.

“I was just kind of hoping it would work out and it did.”

Dontae said yes.
