Police: Woman found dead inside her home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found in her house on Lillie Street Monday afternoon.

According to Fort Wayne Police Department Spokesman Michael Joyner, the woman was found by a friend around 1:10 p.m. in the 3600 block of Lillie St. The friend said she had not heard from the victim in several hours, which prompted the visit.

A neighbor was outside and saw the victim’s friend standing on the porch.

“I saw her standing there and I asked her what was wrong with her,” said Mylisa Kelly, who lives next door. “She didn’t say anything. She just fell to the ground and was screaming and crying.”

Kelly said soon after dozens of police and emergency vehicles flooded the streets.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office is working with detectives to determine what happened. Authorities are interviewing family, friends and neighbors to help establish a timeline of when the woman was last heard from.

Police haven’t said if this death is suspicious, however crime scene and homicide detectives were out at the scene.

Neighbors said violence is prevalent in the neighborhood and it seems to be getting worse.

“The neighborhood is rowdy all the time,” said Roosevelt Broadnax, who’s lived on the block for 12 years. “I have learned to live with it. But it’s rowdy and it’s only getting rowdier.”

“It is very scary especially when you don’t know what’s going on,” said Kelly. “I’m just in shock this happened. I’m praying for the family and I give my condolences. It’s just a sad day.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
