Coroner: Woman shot to death inside her home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The woman found dead in her Lillie Street home Monday afternoon was shot to death.

Ileea Davis, 33, was found by a friend around 1:10 p.m. in the 3600 block of Lillie St. The friend had not heard from the victim in several hours, which prompted the visit, a police spokesman told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE.

A neighbor was outside and saw the victim’s friend standing on the porch.

“I saw her standing there and I asked her what was wrong with her,” said Mylisa Kelly, who lives next door. “She didn’t say anything. She just fell to the ground and was screaming and crying.”

Kelly said soon after, dozens of police and emergency vehicles flooded the streets.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office ruled Monday that Davis had been shot to death and ruled her death the 9th homicide of 2016.

Authorities said they have continued to interview family, friends and neighbors to help establish a timeline of when the woman was last heard from.

A suspect has not been named and no arrests have been made.

Neighbors said violence is prevalent in the neighborhood and it seems to be getting worse.

“The neighborhood is rowdy all the time,” said Roosevelt Broadnax, who’s lived on the block for 12 years. “I have learned to live with it. But it’s rowdy and it’s only getting rowdier.”

“It is very scary especially when you don’t know what’s going on,” said Kelly. “I’m just in shock this happened. I’m praying for the family and I give my condolences. It’s just a sad day.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
