Darius Rucker to sing national anthem at Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Famous country singer Darius Rucker will sing the national anthem for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The news was announced on Wednesday.

Rucker has had three albums that gave him six number one singles, according to his website. One of those included hi version of “Wagon Wheel,” which earned him the GRAMMY for Best County Solo Performance.

He first gained multi-platinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band Hootie & the Blowfish. His musical career began to flourish when he reintroduced himself as a country artist.
