Bookmamas celebrates National Independent Bookstore Day on April 30th

On a rainy day, the best thing to do is cuddle up with a book on the couch and start reading! Kathleen Angelone, Owner of Bookmamas, chats with Tracy about Independent Bookstore Day and how you can take part!

Here are the event details:

  • Saturday, April 11 from 11-3.
  • The first ten visitors will receive swag bags. There will be a selfie station with Bookmamas’ Bookworm and special items for sale. Most activities are scheduled between noon and three. There will be four local authors-Kurt A. Meyer, author of Noblesville and The Salvage Man; Julie Young author of Fifteen Minutes of Fame, The Indianapolis CYO, The Famous Faces of WTTV Channel 4, Historic Irvington and more; and Sherri Wood Emmons, author of Prayers and Lies, The Sometimes Daughter and The Seventh Mother. There will be an adult coloring table moderated by Frida Kahlo. The Humane Society will be here with a dog that children can also read to.
  • Irvington Girl Scout Troop 540 will perform Hoosier Poet April Sayre’s “Indiana Chant” in honor of the bicentennial. Bookmamas is located at 9 Johnson Avenue (just east of Ritter Ave and south of Washington Street).

Kids Ink Bookstore in Broad Ripple will also be celebrating Independent Bookstore day with a scavenger hunt, selfies with a Lego Princess, operate the model trains and debuting their new store t-shirt. They are located at 5619 N. Illinois. To learn more, visit www.kidsinkbooks.com.
