Columbus mom arrested after children bring drug paraphernalia to school
BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A Bartholomew County mother is behind bars accused of doing meth with her children in the house.
As of Thursday evening, Teresa Maxey, 31, is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail.
“It’s just unbelievable,” a Columbus resident said.
According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, Maxey was taken into custody after her three son’s brought a meth-laced plate as well as drug paraphernalia to their elementary school. Authorities said they took it from Maxey’s bathroom.
“Kids should not be around any of that at that young age,” Michelle Clementz, a mother of three said.
The Bartholomew County School District sent 24-Hour News 8 the following statement:
“We regret that our families are sometimes in harms way but hope that they will reach out to us if they feel we can be of assistance. This incident is all about relationships! It is about these young men having positive relationships with their teachers, school staff, and principals. The three boys bonded together as brothers and trusted us to help when they came upon a need.”
In downtown Columbus, people were furious to hear the news.
“Oh yes, but she’s lost. And if the parents are lost the kids have a strike against them, and if the parents don’t have support around them it gets worse,” Irida Miller said.
Police said the Department of Child Protective Services is involved.
They said Maxey is charged with neglect of a dependent and being held on a $7,500 bond.
The boys are 12, 11 and 9 years old.
