Decision over Mass Ave. property’s future to change hands

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The decision over what will happen on a sought-after piece of land in downtown Indianapolis could change hands.

The Indianapolis Public Schools board of commissioners has been reviewing plans to redevelop its 11-acre property on Massachusetts Avenue south of 10th Street where the old Coco-Cola bottling plant sits.

The board was scheduled to choose one of five proposals for how to use the site Thursday but according to the Indianapolis Business Journal, the decision has been pushed back as commissioners consider handing the process over to the city.

It was not clear whether the city would buy the property or take over the consideration of proposals to make a recommendation to the district.

A school administrator told the paper that selling the land directly to the city would provide the district profits immediately.

The price tag of the proposals ranges from $11 million to $18 million and include mixed use developments of residential and retails units.
