Indianapolis Cultural Trail celebrates 100th running with new art installation
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Cultural Trail is celebrating the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 with new art installation.
The Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. announced Thursday they installed a new temporary piece of art on the Cultural Trail at the Washington and Pennsylvania Street intersection. The piece of art is a legacy of Gene and Marilyn Glick created by renowned artist Chakaia Booker.
“We’re thrilled to host Chakaia Booker’s work on the Cultural Trail, in partnership with the 100th Running Host Committee,” said Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. Executive Director, Kären Haley. “The Trail provides a beautiful connection through all of our downtown and this piece allows us to welcome race fans and visitors as well as pay tribute to the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.”
Booker’s art is made of rubber tires and stainless steel. She is known for her innovative use of tires as the material she uses. Booker cuts, shapes, folds and weaves the rubber onto armatures.
The sculpture will be on display until October 2016.
