Lafayette residents spot coyote in neighborhood

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A coyote was spotted by several people in a Lafayette neighborhood.

For weeks, Lafayette Animal Control has been getting calls from residents who spotted the coyote. The animal has been seen on Ortman Lane and 18th Street up to Ninth Street.

Animal Control Supervisor Josh Klumpe said the coyote has been roaming around the area since last fall. He believes it’s just one coyote and said it seems to be getting bolder and letting people get close.

Department of Natural Resources and Wildcat Wildlife Center advise people just to ignore the coyote and leave it alone.

“Keep your domesticated cats inside, if you live around that area or rural area, because they are just a part of the food chain at that point,” Klumpe said.
