Trump, Cruz trade blows at Indiana rallies

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The battle for Indiana continues as both Donald Trump and Ted Cruz rallied Hoosier voters Thursday.

Cruz took his campaign to northern Indiana starting in Fort Wayne, where you find a lot of Republicans.

Trump went to Evansville where his campaign believes he will perform well even though Democrats dominate there.

For a second day, Trump campaigned with basketball coach Bob Knight who, for a second day, appeared to be wearing the same clothes.

His message didn’t change either.

“This man’s not a Republican, he’s not a Democrat,” said Knight of Trump. “At heart he’s just a great American.”

Cruz appeared alongside Carly Fiorina, his new running mate.

“The people of Indiana want a positive, optimistic, conservative message going forward,” he said, “a clear contrast.”

But, he found it necessary to defend himself against attacks from fellow Republican John Boehner. Among other things, the former Speaker called Cruz “lucifer in the flesh.”

“What Boehner is angry with me for,” Cruz told a rally, “is standing with the American people, is energizing and organizing House conservatives to stand with the American people.”

Trump focused on Fiorina.

“Carly got out,” he said. “She had no standing. I mean, the one debate, on the children’s stage. She did it on the children’s stage, not on our stage, she didn’t debate against me.”

Trump hopes Indiana is the end of line.

“If we win in Indiana,” he said, “it’s over.”

But he is already looking down the road. He campaigns in California Thursday night.
