Video: Boy terrified as roller coaster belt comes apart during ride

AMARILLO, TX (WFLA) – A boy and his dad had a few unpleasant moments on a roller coaster ride at an amusement park as the safety belt came apart during the ride.

Delbert Latham posted a video of the ride on his Facebook page.

In the post, he said that he and his son Kaysen, 6, were in their seats of the roller coaster ride at the Wonderland Amusement Park. The ride was starting to move and speed up. Suddenly the safety belt came apart.

The video shows Kaysen sliding down on the floor of the cart. Latham says he had to hold him during the entire ride. Both made it to the end of the ride unharmed. But when the father told the ride attendant about the belt disaster, the employee said he knew it happened sometimes. The ride continued working after Latham’s complaint, but the staffers wouldn’t let anybody use on the back seats.

Latham took it to social media to inform others about the safety issue at the park. At the end of his Facebook post, Latham asked people to share the video to “let people know how this place is being ran”.

We reached out to Latham and he told us, that he had received a statement from the park in response. The statement read:

Hi Delbert, We are so very to sorry to hear about your son’s experience. The safety of our guests is always our absolute number one priority. We ensure this problem will be addressed and fixed immediately. Thank you so much for bringing it to our attention. Please extend our deepest apologies to your son. If you will send us your address, we would like to send you some WOW Passes so you guys can come back later in the season and enjoy the experience.

He also explained that there were questions about his son’s height. He clarified that Kaysen is 49 inches tall and the height requirement for the ride is 48 inches.
