11-year-old boy shoots burglar

TALLEDEGA, Ala. (CNN) — An 11-year-old boy shot a suspected burglar at his Talledega home.

11-year-old Chris Gaither was home alone Wednesday morning when he heard a noise. Someone had broken into his house. Scared, Chris grabbed a 9mm handgun.

“I told him I was going to kill him if he didn’t get out of my house,” Gaither said. “When he was coming down the stairs, that’s when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that.”

The intruder made it out the front door with a hamper in hand. That’s when Chris started firing off bullets. As the intruder went to jump fence, Chris’ 12th and final shot hit the bad guy in the leg.

“I shot through the hamper he was carrying. It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby,” Chris said.

A baby that learned his lesson.

“When I pulled the gun, I guess he didn’t think it was a real gun because he kept on walking,” Chris said.

The police have not released the name of the intruder, but Chris’ mother says this man has robbed their house before. They don’t know him personally

Chris credits his stepdad for his shooting skills.

“Yeah, I play zombies for target practice,” Chris said.

Turns out, there’s more than a Basset Hound on guard.

“I hope you learn your lesson coming to this house trying to steal stuff,” Chris said.
