INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Governor Mike Pence is off the sidelines in the Indiana Presidential primary. He endorsed Senator Ted Cruz Friday.
Both Donald Trump and Cruz have praised Governor Mike Pence at Indiana campaign rallies. It tells you that they believe there is value in a Pence endorsement.
Eight days ago Cruz met with Pence in private at the governor’s residence, something that both Trump and John Kasich did as well. You can be sure that an endorsement was a part of every discussion.
Pence chose to announce his decision on the Garrison Show, a conservative radio program, but by the time he got to the microphone the news was already out.
Yet before he revealed his choice, he voiced praise for Donald Trump and promised to support the GOP nominee.
“I’m not against anybody,” he said, “but I will be voting for Ted Cruz in the upcoming Republican primary.”
He went on to say, “I see Ted Cruz as a principled conservative who’s dedicated his career to advocating the Reagan agenda.”
At a campaign rally in Jeffersonville, Cruz embraced it.
“Earlier today Indiana’s own Governor Mike Pence endorsed our campaign, he said. “You know, Governor Pence is a strong principled conservative.”
After the radio appearance, Pence said he may campaign with Cruz.
