LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A man was injured after falling into a mulch auger Saturday morning in Lawrence.

It happened around 8:45 a.m. at Indiana Mulch in the 10300 block of Pendleton Pike.

Lawrence Fire Department Chief Dino Batalis said a man slipped and fell into a bin about eight feet tall with an auger at the bottom.

The machinery was off, but the fall bumped a remote in his pocket that activated the auger.

His legs got caught and firefighters had to saw the auger away from the man’s body.

He was rushed into surgery for compound leg fractures and is expected to survive, Batalis said.
