Bloomington man dies in crash

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — A man died in a Bloomington crash Monday morning after police say a driver crashed into two vehicles and ran a red light.

Emergency crews were called to State Road 37 and Tapp Road just before 9 a.m.

Indiana State Police said a Hyundai car driven by Ryan Kimbrel, 31, of Mitchell was heading north on SR 37 approaching Tapp Road. He crossed from the left lane into the right lane and sideswiped a Toyota car stopped at a red light, according to police.

Kimbrel continued into the intersection — despite the red light — and crashed into a second Toyota car, driven by 69-year-old James Sprague Jr. of Bloomington, turning south onto SR 37.

Sprague died of his injuries. Police said he was turning left with a green arrow.

The driver of the vehicle sideswiped by Kimbrel was not injured.

Kimbrel and Sprague were both taken to the hospital.

Police don’t know why Kimbrel crashed into the vehicles.
