Former college student arrested for murder of infant

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Police have arrested a former college student accused of murder and neglect of a dependent.

Police said they arrested Mikayla Munn, 21, of Elkhart on Monday around 12:45 p.m. Munn was arrested at her home and was brought to the Wabash County Jail.

On March 8, police said they received a 911 call from Munn. They said when they arrived to her dorm room at Manchester University, they found she had given birth to an infant boy in a bath tub. They said the infant was not breathing. Police said they both were transported by ambulance to local hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead. Munn was later released after treated for the after effects of child birth.

Detectives from the North Manchester Police Department and the Indiana State Police said due to inconsistent information, they started an investigation into the death of the infant. They said during the investigation they found enough evidence to develop probable cause for an arrest warrant to be issued for Munn.

She is accused of murder and neglect.
