Police: Man critically hurt after being shot in an alley

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department are investigating a shooting after a man was hospitalized in critical condition.

According to FWPD Spokesman Officer Chris Felton, witnesses said they heard gunshots just before 5 p.m. Sunday. When they went to see what happened, they found a man outside in the grass in an alley on McKee Street, between Weisser Park Avenue and John Street.

The man was seriously injured, but medics later said he was in critical condition after he arrived at the hospital.

Felton said investigators are trying to figure out what led to the shooting. Felton said initial information lead them to believe someone started shooting at the victim from or near McKee Street.

Police also didn’t say how many times the man was shot or where he was hit.

Investigators attempted to speak with potential witnesses and residents in the area to gather more information.
