INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are trying to determine what led up to a disagreement that ended with two men shot. One of those men died, the other is hospitalized.

It happened Tuesday afternoon, just after 12:00 in the 5900 block of Cedar Lake Drive on the city’s northwest side.

It didn’t take long for family members and loved ones to arrive on the scene after hearing about the shooting.

Devastation and heartbreak soon filled the neighborhood.

“It’s so sad. It’s so sad. My heart goes out to their relatives,” said Cora Tucker, who lives right across the street. Tucker watched in sadness, empathizing with their pain.

“I just recently lost my daughter to epilepsy. It is a life-altering experience to lose a loved one,” she said.

Inside the house is where police say there was some kind of dispute between two men.

Shots were fired and one man took off in a car, smashing a mailbox. Debris littered a neighbor’s yard. Police found that car a few blocks away in the same neighborhood.

“It’s not a robbery. This was two acquaintances that knew each other. Some type of disturbance. Shots fired and we have the end result,” said IMPD Sgt Kendale Adams.

The end result being two people shot; one rushed to IU Health Methodist Hospital and the other dead.

“There’s no belief that there is a random gunman running around. This was targeted. I mean, these individuals knew each other,” said Adams.

Investigators spent the afternoon marking evidence, and taking photographs. Loved ones watched in horror from beyond the crime tape, holding onto one another.

“Just shocked. The residence that it happened at, has a lot of activity going on,” said Tucker.

Tucker says the home had a revolving door of people in and out. She’s now taking her own safety measures.

“There’s concern because a couple times the people out here have gotten very, very hostile. So you never know,” she said.

At this time, authorities haven’t released the identities of those involved, but did say the man transported to the hospital was in good condition.
